CODE OF CONDUCT
The following Code of Conduct is completed and signed by every member of NAAAP leadership. We strive to take responsibility and accountability for ourselves and intend to hold our members and event attendees to high standards of professional conduct as well. We thank you in advance for also sharing many of these core values and beliefs and ensuring an uplifting, safe environment.
NAAAP Code of Conduct
The National Association of Asian American Professionals (“NAAAP”) or the North American Association of Asian Professionals (“NAAAP” in Canada) is committed to high standards of professional practice, integrity, and excellence. Every member shall be guided by the NAAAP Code of Conduct, and members in official capacities (e.g. Board of Directors, Officers, Committee Leads, and Committee Members) have an even greater responsibility to observe these standards, due to the increased visibility and influential nature governed by these capacities.
A. NAAAP Mandate
We are committed to furthering the NAAAP Mandate, which is:
1. Encourage and support initiatives which further the Asian community by increasing communication, awareness, interaction and exchange of ideas among members through both formal and informal functions;
2. Commit to efforts which develop and enhance professional and entrepreneurial networking as well as idea sharing among those involved with Asian communities either locally, within North America or abroad; and
3. Establish a forum in the Lower Mainland which gives people the opportunity to share ideas and become involved in the community within a comfortable and supportive environment.
B. Standards of Conduct
In furthering the NAAAP Mandate, we believe in conducting ourselves at all times and all locations as follows:
1. Respect. We respect the individual. We believe that individuals who are treated with respect empowered to respond by giving their best. We treat ourselves and each other with dignity, regardless of role or differences. We will refrain from behavior of a sexual nature that is illegal or that affects the dignity of women and men, which is considered unwanted, unacceptable, inappropriate and offensive to the recipient, and that creates an intimidating, hostile, unstable or offensive environment. Furthermore, if I am subject to or observe sexual misconduct, I will report it to a NAAAP authority whom I know and trust, with an expectation that the allegation is addressed swiftly and fairly.
2. Honesty. We are fair, honest, and forthright in our dealings. To achieve fairness, we shall maintain an open mind while keeping our decisions and motivations impartial. To achieve honesty, we should not falsify any information at any given time. To be forthright means that we do not use coercive or misleading practices.
3. Clarity. We do not engage in rumors and instead directly and constructively communicate our concerns.
4. Cooperation. We foster cooperation and discourage unnecessary conflict. We work professionally with other people and organizations who can further our mandate and community who share similar beliefs in order to achieve a greater result.
5. Accountability. We are accountable for our actions and their associated consequences. We deliver what we promise and deliver it when we promise it.
6. Flexibility. We remain flexible to our partners by working with their unique schedules and needs.
7. Transparency. We use transparent methods and processes. The transparency exhibits our commitment towards greater accountability, impartiality, and avoidance in conflicts of interest.
8. Diversity. We respect the diversity of the individual and collaborate to achieve greater levels of innovation. We are receptive to new and different ideas as well as opinions with whom we interact.
9. Resourcefulness. We use NAAAP resources efficiently and conscientiously. We guard and conserve NAAAP resources as vigilantly as we would our own.
10. Law. We respect law and order. In interpreting the law, we adopt a course which preserves integrity and recognizes authority. We comply with NAAAP bylaws, rules, regulations, procedures, policies, and orders.
11. Safety. We maintain a safe environment for NAAAP members and NAAAP events. We do not engage in verbal, physical, psychological, or sexual harassment. We promote safety and do not endanger the health or welfare of people at any NAAAP-sponsored event. A NAAAP-sponsored event is defined as promoted or advertised as a NAAAP event, discounted to NAAAP members, or recognized as a NAAAP event by the venue.
12. Conflicts of Interest. We do not place ourselves in situations in which our personal or outside interests could conflict directly or indirectly with our duties and responsibilities to NAAAP. While in our official duties representing NAAAP, our personal business or company will not come before or overshadow the interest of NAAAP. We do not engage in questionable or fraudulent business activities with any NAAAP member. We do not accept gifts or other benefits when it could be seen as creating an expectation or obligation. We strive for absolute professional integrity and to be beyond reproach. Please review the following pages for more details.
I, , have read and agree to abide to NAAAP’s Code of Conduct for as long as I am involved with NAAAP. I understand that the mandates and standards may change at anytime and without notice and I am still required to abide by the changed Code of Conduct.
